Pipe extrusion and SABIC® Vestolen A pipe grades a perfect marriage
SABIC® Vestolen A High Density pipe grades have a long history in pipe applications. For over 40 years they have been a synonym for high safety and reliability. In many pipelines all over the world pipes of SABIC® Vestolen A are in service for the conveyance of gas, potable water, sewage and industrial liquids.
In 1999 SABIC Europe made a big step towards a new generation of PE-HD, the bimodal PE.
The bimodal high density Polyethylene is obtained via a cascade-type polymerization process. The products gained from this process reveal outstanding long life properties and a good balance between toughness and flexibility.
The bimodal grades of SABIC Europe offer a lot of opportunities to the future challenges in pipe applications. They have a high resistance to slow crack growth and rapid crack propagation and therefore represent a real alternative to traditional materials such as steel.
SABIC Europe offers three basic grades of bimodal materials:
- SABIC® Vestolen A 6060R as PE 100 high density
- SABIC® Vestolen A 5061R as PE 80 high density
- SABIC® Vestolen A 4062R as PE 80 medium density
Our grades meet the requirements of the EN standard 1555 and EN 12201 for gas respectively for potable water. Moreover the ISO standards 4437 and 4427 for gas and water will be fulfilled.
SABIC® Vestolen pipe grades are approved in most European countries and also in Asia and America.
Strict internal as well as external quality tests by annual audits ensure the maintenance of the high quality level. Our membership of the PE 100+ association is a further step in developing and maintaining the highest quality levels for our grades in particular for the PE 100-grade SABIC® Vestolen A 6060R.
The effect of drinking water on human health is regarded as a serious concern in many European countries. SABIC® Vestolen A pipe grades fulfill the severe requirements of European authorities for the use in drinking water pipes.
Due to their broad processing window SABIC® Vestolen A pipe grades are processable on all commercially available extruders. Possible outside diameters range from 16 mm to 1600 mm. The construction of long pipeline systems is no problem since all grades show a very good weldability amongst each other.
Besides the major pressure-pipe applications SABIC® Vestolen A pipe grades are also used in cable duct applications and for semi finished grades.
Their very good chemical resistance also enables them for the use in helically wound tanks for the storage of many organic and inorganic substances.
